Want to scale up on your production and grow as a wheel-thrower? This course is designed for you. In this three week course students will learn the technique of wheel-throwing off the hump. This course is perfect for those looking to scale up production of ceramic wares as well as those wanting to improve and grow their wheel-throwing skills. Experience in wheel-throwing is required, though the instructor will meet you at your current level of experience. This class spans several weeks, with each session building upon the next, where students will create many ceramics forms, learn trimming techniques to trim more pieces faster, and surface decoration and glazing demonstrations. Work will produced will be bisque fired and students will glaze then be able to glaze their work on their own schedule. Once glazed the work will be fully fired for students to pick up.

Instructor Bio

Ben Statser

Ben Statser is a ceramic artist and educator living and working in Dallas. After earning an MFA in ceramics from the University of North Texas in 2021, he began teaching with Dallas College where he’s currently a ceramics instructor at the El Centro campus. Ben has also taught ceramics classes at various community studios around DFW. Drawn to the transformative nature of clay, the medium is often used in his work to reflect personal experiences of growth and transformation of identity. Ben is passionate about clay and the community it brings together, hoping to spread the excitement ceramics holds through teaching the medium.
