Lisset describes her take on pottery and experience here at FCS Clayworks:
“Pottery as a hobby isn’t what I’d call accessible. It’s not only expensive, but also technically difficult. From getting to know the material, and trying out different techniques to perfecting the ones you like; the list goes on. To make pottery you love, you must have the freedom to try new things and the ability to see the beauty in failure.I’ve been working from my garage studio for a couple of years with the basics, a wheel, table, throwing, trimming and sculpting tools. Clayworks has that and more! It’s great walking in and being in a place full of people who love clay as much as I do. People who wonder what else this material can do, and that’s what I don’t get at home.Besides community, Clayworks offers tools that would otherwise not be available to me; like a slab roller and a kiln. If I need to make an extra large slab it’s nice to be able to go to the studio and use the slab roller.Clayworks has helped me progress faster than I would have at home by myself that’s for sure. It gave me the freedom to try techniques and access to tools I wouldn’t have otherwise, the quick turnaround to see results and make the changes necessary to do better on the next piece and the community support to fuel my passion.”
