This course will introduce the fundamentals of throwing clay on the wheel. Class begins with the essentials from wedging to learning to properly center. Hyesoo offers excellent hands-on instruction teaching students the fundamentals of making cups, mugs and bowls. Learn alteration methods like sculpting, darting, and faceting, as well as forming handles, and trimming feet. There is ample time to practice through repetition and create a cohesive designed set or you can explore though more iterative, open-ended experimentation. Class culminates with learning to glaze your pots. Final work will available 3-4 weeks after last class.

Instructor Bio

Hyesoo Ahn

Hyesoo Ahn’s clay journey began seven years ago in Toronto, Canada, where her love for illustration sparked a desire to explore a more tactile, 3D medium. This led her to the world of pottery, a passion she has carried with her across borders and states. Now a resident artist at studio in McKinney, TX, Hyesoo draws inspiration from her heritage, exploring traditional Asian forms, glazes, and imagery in her work. She is deeply committed to sharing the beauty and joy of pottery, creating a welcoming and supportive clay community where creativity flourishes.
